Sane at Home Mom in 2018
To be completely honest, when I started my blog, it was with hopes of monetizing. I did newspaper in high school, but other than that have never been much of a “writer”. I would search and search Pinterest for ways of bringing in a second income, so we could reach our goal of paying off all of our debts sooner.
Most of the debt was mine (car and student loans), and I was starting to feel guilty for spending and not earning, while staying home with my kids.
Disclaimer: My husband has never made me feel this way. I just bring this guilt/shame/lameness on myself way too often about way too many things.
Every article I read said to start a blog – it was a surefire way to create an income! People were earning six figures per month by blogging and they could stay home and anyone could do it. I was hooked!
So after a whole like 20 minutes of thinking about it, I signed up for my own domain, downloaded WordPress and started watching YouTube videos about how to set up my blog. Because, I knew nothing. I still don’t know very much, but I really knew nothing other than what I had found on Pinterest.
I did a lot of things wrong, like publishing my blog with only one post, and not establishing a strong presence on other blogs, and taking really crappy pictures, and I’m sure I will continue to do a lot of things wrong. But, I have done some things right also!
Here are some things I’m proud of in 2017
- Got over 300 likes on my Facebook page!
- Over 3800 unique visitors to my blog from over 30 different countries
- Earned free product from Ergo | Jord Watches
- Got my first paycheck from my blog!
I will say though, more than the money that I was initially chasing, the thing that I am most proud of is the response I’ve gotten from people on my writing. Articles like this one and this one, gained so much positive feedback that I was almost moved to tears. Knowing that people are experiencing things similar to me, and that they want to hear more from little old Jordan from a small town in Oregon, brings me so much joy.
Moving forward into 2018 though, I am ready to learn more about blogging, earn more from blogging, and continue spreading what I have to say.
My 2018 Blogging Goals
- 5,000 Instagram Followers
- 1,000 Facebook Fans
- Photograph most of my own images or have somebody photograph for me (stop using stock images!)
- Get my e-mail list up and running, with newsletters going out consistently
- Develop long-term relationships with brands
- Write daily, post more frequently
Thank you all for supporting me so far in my blogging journey. Even if I don’t meet all of my goals, I am so enjoying the time to process and sort through all of the thoughts in my mind. Blogging has been a great outlet for me as a SAHM, and I really enjoy being able to measure my progress, and give myself goals to accomplish.
