Five Things Friday – September 8
HEY AGAIN! I’ve been totally M.I.A. lately. I’m exhausted and honestly, have been feeling a little down. I’m trying to snap out of it though! Because my favorite season is near, and I’ve already broken out my fall-scented candles (DONT BE A HATER), and I’ve had 3 cups of coffee today. With this newfound energy, (thanks caffeine!) I’m doing a Five Things Friday today.
I love writing these, because I can write about whatever I want, and the things I’m writing about today are what are giving me joy lately. We could all use a little more joy, am I right?
This. Is. My. Favorite. I love the fall for soooo many reasons, but Oregon Football is probably #1. I graduated from UO (go ducks!) and went to as many football games as I could as a student. When I went, we were in the Chip Kelly era, and I saw them play in the inaugural Pac-12 Championship game, and then lose pretty much every big bowl game they went to. (I don’t like to talk about that part as much.)
We have a new coach this year, and I’m so excited to see what we (yes, we. Until they lose, then it’s them. Haha. Kidding, kind of..) can do under new leadership, and with a newly lit fire. I also love football watching parties. Because, nachos.
My Birthday Weekend
I turn TWENTY-SIX on Sunday. WHAT! I still consider this mid-20’s so I’m not quite “almost 30.” But I think I am facing some sort of quarter-life crisis because I want blue hair and bangs. Someone talk me out of this.
Tonight, Dan is taking me out to dinner, and my lovely sister, Kegan, is watching the kids. Bless her heart. I need a date night and am SO EXCITED to be celebrated! Tomorrow, we’re going to get pedicures and then go to Micah’s first soccer game. He’s so cute and such a stud.
On my actual birthday, I’ll probably just request a PSL and the privilege of sleeping in. Then Thai food for dinner. I’m easy to please.
I have a lot of thoughts on the past year, but those are in a blog post to come.
Lemons, Lemons, Lemons!
We went to California over Labor Day weekend to visit Dan’s parents. We spent every day in the pool in their backyard, and I got sunburned for the first time this summer. It was glorious. Right next to their pool, they have this awesome, huge lemon tree. My mother-in-law sent me home with sooo many lemons. Lemon is one of my favorite things to bake with, and the perfect way to say goodbye to summer.
I plan on making Starbuck’s copycat Lemon Loaf and attempting a play on orange chicken… what other lemon recipes do you guys love? Comment below!
DEBT FREE SCREAM!
Okay guys, Dave Ramsey. This guy right here has been a GAME-CHANGER for me. I have heard of him, seen his “baby-steps” on Pinterest, and knew that there was Financial Peace University always going on at my church. On a whim one day, I checked out Total Money Makeover from the library and it COMPLETELY changed my views on money.
Usually, I love spending, love buying new things, etc. but after reading his plans and learning that I could have all my debts paid off in 2 years, and my house paid off less than 10 years after that?! I was sold.
I read his book, then started listening to his podcast, and you guys.. I have drank the Kool-Aid so to speak. One of my favorite authors, Shauna Niequist says that you should pay attention to the things that make you cry. Hearing people do their debt-free screams on the air makes me tear up. Every. Single. Time. I have no idea why, but it is so inspiring.
And I think this excerpt of this blog post shows that I am not as young and cool as I think I am. Oh well.
Pumpkin Spice Everything..
It’s here. That magical time of year. When everyone IS A TOTAL HATER to people who like pumpkin flavored things. Is it predictable? Yes. Is it kind of unhealthy? Yes. Is it not as good as it’s made out to be? Probably. I don’t care though. It’s cozy and magical and goes great in coffee.
In an attempt to be just as “basic”, but a little bit more healthy, here is my favorite homemade PSL recipe.
