Five Things Friday – May 26
Happy Friday (and happy Bachelorette week)! I’ve been MIA lately. Kind of because I’m tired, but also because it’s been SO SUNNY. We’ve been outside so much lately and I’m not complaining. I also have a couple blog posts about halfway done, but they’re pretty lengthy and involved so it’s taken me longer to get those done. ANYWAYS. Friday. Here’s what we’ve been doing around here!
One of my friends from elementary school started a handmade bonnet shop recently and were in love with them here. I bought a velvet one for Christmas, and recently got a frilly “Strawberry Bonnet” for an upcoming festival in June. (I can’t seem to get a good picture of her in this, but I’m working on it!) Please just look how adorable these are.
The adorable velvet bonnet, and some really cute buck teeth.
I have to be honest. I never saw myself as the type of mom to put my children in bonnets. It seemed very Laura Ingalls Wilder to me. But these are adorable, practical and so well made. Check her shop out!
“Tanning” While Pregnant
So like I said before, it has been SO SUNNY. Yesterday we spent around 5 hours in the sun. Seeing as I have a huge beach ball in the front of my shirt, I can’t flip over onto my stomach in the sun. The fronts of my thighs are bright red. And I’m still pasty as can be on the back of my legs!
Pregnancy is a beautiful time, am I right?
School’s Out For Summer
My oldest just finished his first year of preschool! They didn’t even have a graduation, but I have to be honest that I almost cried watching their little end of the year slideshow. It just seemed like such a big moment for my tiny (not so tiny) 4 year old. He has been acting really excited that it’s summer, but I don’t think it’s fully hit him that he’s not going back to school until September.
Excuse me while I go cry in a corner. Also, the insane amount of growing that happened in 8 months might explain his crankiness?!
I was a little nervous to have him home full time this summer, because he has SO MUCH ENERGY, but it will be nice to have him around with the new baby. And to not have to drive anywhere with all 3 of them until the baby is older.
We’re filling our summer with jiu jitsu, swimming in our $12 pool and Dan will have two weeks off once the baby is here! So he is being volunteered to take them to the water park a lot. And potentially stop for McFlurries on the way home. The baby needs it. It’s a thing.
I was never a fan of the Bachelor or Bachelorette, but a couple of years ago some of my friends started getting together to watch it every week. Due to my FOMO and love of junk food, I joined in and became kind of hooked on the drama. Especially the first episode.
So when Rachel met all the guys on the first episode this week, you know I was watching with my decaf latte in hand. And I have to say, the producers have really outdone themselves this season.
- Whaboom Guy – There’s no way this one was kept around just for ratings. The feelings are especially real with this guy.
- Guy with miniature version of himself – There are a lot of creeps out there, especially on the Bachelor(ette), and this guy is no exception. I can’t tell if this is a blow-up doll or a ventriloquist dummy or what? Whatever it is, he does not need his own segments speaking in a French accent. Too far ABC, too far.
- Guy that she was camp counselor of – I’m sorry. I think it may be a huge turn-off to me if somebody brought in a yearbook with a picture of him in 3rd grade, and me in 8th grade. I know, the age difference isn’t anything now, but it was then. And she was his camp counselor. Will that image ever leave Rachel’s mind!?
Those are my top 3 this season and I just can’t wait to see how far the producers let Whaboom guy go. (And how do I get paid to be a “Tickle Monster”? I’m pretty sure that’s a huge part of my job description in real life.)
Getting Ready for Baby 3
So I am 36 weeks pregnant today, and officially, minimally “ready” for baby to get here. I mean that in the sense of I have diapers (finally) and Sophia’s hand me downs are washed. I still need to pack the hospital bag, install the car seat, pick out a coming home outfit and order our double stroller (this weekend! HELLO MEMORIAL DAY SALES.)
I have been having a ton of pelvic pain lately and it makes me so excited because the pain means the end is near! I bought some dates today because I’ve heard their good for strengthening your uterus or something. I’m not sure if they’ll actually help my labor/delivery, but they are delicious and a natural sugar. Win win.
Hopefully I will be able to stay on top of writing as the end of this pregnancy nears. No matter how sarcastic or snappy I can be about being pregnant, I really do feel lucky to have carried this girl to 36 weeks. I’m so excited to meet her and see the bond between her and my other babes!
Is there anything that you did leading up to your due date to ensure that you were ready?! (I always forget something.)
