2018 Goals and Resolutions

NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS | Good Goals for Stay at Home Moms | saneathomemom.com

I love the new year. It is a clear place to make a fresh start, and begin making improvements on yourself and your life.

This post is a little bit late, and I have been completely M.I.A. aside from my Instagram, but I have been thoroughly enjoying my break, and taking the time to reflect on what I want this year to look like.

Going into the new year, four words keep popping into my mind. These are the words I want to take into the new year with me, and shape how I do things. My goals all revolve around these words in some way, and I am excited to share them with you.

Serve. Create. Play. Grow.

I found these words on a free printable somewhere (I can’t remember where – if it was you, please comment below so I can give you credit!) and they just stuck with me. They can encompass so much, but also give me a focus on what I want my life to look like this year.

Serve.

Family Date Night – Serving my Family

As my kids keep growing (why?!) I am starting to realize just how precious the time with them is. 2018 is the year that Micah will start Kindergarten, and I am already amazed at how much time activities, school and commitments take up. This year, I want to commit to spending one night a week doing something, uninterrupted, as a family. Whether this is a simple movie night, or something bigger like going to the zoo, I want this to become a routine. I want our kids to know that they are worth our time, and create valuable memories.

Lead a HS Girls Bible Study – Serving the Community

I have mentioned before that I am a Small Group leader for the Youth Group at our church, and I have been doing this for almost two years now. Last year, I used my pregnancy as an excuse to not reach out beyond Wednesday nights, but this year I am ready to foster deeper relationships with these girls.

(If you have a bible study recommendation, please drop it in the comments below!)

Create.

Grow my Blog

I’m going to write a separate blog post for this one, so I can organize my thoughts better and give some pointers if anyone else wants to start a blog this year. This is a big one for me, and I am excited to dedicate more time and energy to Sane at Home Mom.

Cook through a Cookbook

I love cooking, and if the hours at a restaurant weren’t so awful for work-life balance, I would go to culinary school in a heartbeat. The next best thing is to take a Julie and Julia approach, and cook my way through a cookbook. I may blog about this, or I may just do it for my own personal satisfaction.

I want to start soon, but need to find a good cookbook to do it with. If you have any suggestions, let me know!

Play.

Run 2 Half Marathons

This one is pretty self-explanatory. I’m trying to make exercise, running and races just something I do. A rhythm of my life. I’m not fast, but I would like to get faster, and keep building up strength and speed.

Get off of my Phone – Play with My Kids

I get into bad routines of spending a lot of time on my phone or the computer. Micah starts Kindergarten next year, and then time with him is just going to fly by. This year I want to be intentional with my time, and get down on the floor with him when he is doing Lego, say yes to Sophia’s request to “color with me” and spend a lot of time just holding Elise.

Grow.

Journal & Read my Bible

I have taken time off from writing my blog, and find that when I am blogging or journaling, I am overall much happier, calmer and more fun to be around. The day just seems better when it starts with reading my Bible and praying.

My kids have recently taken a liking to waking up well before 6 am, so I don’t think I can wake up before them to do it, but I am looking forward to digging deeper into the Word and growing my relationship with Christ this year.

I realize it is already over a week into the new year, but these things have already become a part of my life. I have been loving eating dinner with my family, spending time working on the back-end of my blog, and nourishing the relationships with my kids.

Yes! It’s so easy to be distracted, which is why I made that one of my goals too!

Those are great resolutions. Very meaningful and straight forward. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ I just became a believer in New Year resolutions. My only resolution is to start earning money again from my passion. I can see myself earning at the same time still fulill my mom duties as a stay at home mom. I wish you all the best. You can fulfill all of your resolutions.

Thanks for reading, Nina! It is hard to balance being a full-time mom, and trying to fulfill our passions/dreams as well. I will have to check your blog out!

This was such a great post. And I love how you sectioned off hour resolutions. I got the idea from another blog to do a theme for the year in lieu of resolutions and itโ€™s going great so far. Sn, Iโ€™ll have to use that idea of cooking through a cookbook. That such a cool idea for those who love food and trying new recipes!

I love that idea too! That’s kind of my thinking with the 4 words, and then the goals within each of those. If you have any good cookbook recommendations let me know!

those are some really well rounded goals! My goals are petty simple this year- they’re about getting back to the basics and doing some foundational things that I’ve gotten behind on.

That’s super important! I’m trying to make these more “rhythms” – things that become 2nd nature to me… which is why I’ve included probably too many. Haha.

I thought it was great that you included the girl’s Bible study bit on here – as my mom did this for me when I was in middle school. It was a great time for me to hang out with my closest friends, talk about important things, and be creative. More people should do that for sure!

I hope it’s something I can commit to, and continue with my own children. Thanks for reading! Do you have any suggestions for Bible studies?
